Hanwha Begins Sports Marketing in Europe

August 2, 2011
  • Sponsorship contract with Hamburger SV
  • Hanwha Solar to be known as a premium brand in European market
  • Hosting the Hanwha Solar Cup to start up sports marketing in Europe

Hanwha signed a sponsorship agreement with Hamburger SV at the media room of the stadium. Hamburger SV is one of the most prestigious soccer clubs with a 124-year history. Heung-min Sohn, a member of the Korean national soccer team, belongs to this team.

Hanwha has begun its sports marketing in Germany which has the biggest solar market in the world. It expects to build up brand popularity as one of the world-class solar companies in European market.

With the sponsorship contract with Hamburger SV, Hanwha will gain rather specialized promotion rights to freely advertise Hanwha Solar’s logo by exposing it on game tickets, posters, and websites. Hanwha will also arrange a Sponsor Day event and a Hamburger SV team’s fan meeting.

Starting with a pre-season friendly match, ‘Hanwha Solar Cup,’ on August 2nd, between Hamburger SV and Valencia CF of Spain’s Primera Liga, Hanwha started its sports marketing plan in full-scale. Exposing the logo of Hanwha Solar on game tickets and posters, hosting the MVP awards ceremony, and running a commercial on the LED scoreboard brought Hanwha Solar the greatest promotional effect, advertising the company all over Europe.

As a part of the sponsorship, Hanwha will install photovoltaic systems in soccer-related facilities in the Hamburger city, in efforts to widen the use of solar energy in the world.

Ki-joon Hong, the Chief Representative of Hanwha Solar, stated “This sponsorship agreement and hosting the ‘Hanwha Solar Cup’ is the first step that Hanwha Solar is taking to let the Hanwha Solar brand known in the European market. Within the next five years, we will establish our company as a leading solar brand in Europe.”
