Not only will it improve overall conditions of local schools as well as enable its long-term development, the program also plays a key role in enabling teachers and students to better understand the value of sustainable development.

The inaugural signing ceremony marking this announcement was attended by Mr. Seong Woo Nam, Chief Executive Officer of Hanwha SolarOne; Mr. Jay Seo, Head of China Business Division of Hanwha SolarOne; Mr. Young Rak Kim, Vice President of Hanwha Group China; Mr. Tu Meng, General Secretary of the China Youth Development Foundation; Mr. Sun Guangbin, Vice Secretary of the China Chamber of Commerce for Import and Export of Machinery and Electronic Products. In addition, Hanwha SolarOne will provide the school with comprehensive operational and maintenance related training. The project is estimated to yield an estimated 54,000 kW of solar energy every year for the Xiegoue Town Center Primary School, which is equivalent to RMB 40,000 in annual electricity fees.

Hanwha Group donated and installed another 30 kW distributed rooftop PV system for the Hope Primary School in Wufeng County, Hubei Province in the previous year, and this year’s donation for Xiegou Town Center Primary School signifies the continued expansion and achievements in the company’s corporate social responsibility in China. Mr. Seong Woo Nam, Chief Executive Officer of Hanwha SolarOne, stated during the signing ceremony, “Hanwha Group is dedicated to supporting children’s education while fostering a greater understanding of sustainable development and renewable energy. We are honored to be able to leverage our strength and contribute to the ‘Project Hope’ so to improve overall education and wellbeing of children in remote areas in China. Looking ahead, we are committed to continue expanding our corporate responsibility footprint in China through cooperating with public welfare organizations and trade associations so to continue helping people in need.”

“This donation is testament to the continued success gained from the Hope Primary School in Wufeng County, Hubei Province. It further reflects the uniqueness of the program and its potential to be adapted across regions. We hope the donation and installation of PV equipment can be provided to more Hope Schools across China while inspiring solar companies to leverage more creative ways to implement CSR programs,” Mr. Tu Meng, General Secretary of the China Youth Development Foundation added. Mr. Sun Guangbin, Secretary of CCCME further added, “Hanwha Group’s ‘Happy Sunshine’ program has successfully incorporated the company’s technical strength and has set an industry precedence by establishing a new direction for CSR programs implemented by solar industries. We hope to see more solar PV industries leveraging its business strengths into their CSR projects so to enable clean energy to benefit the wider population.”

Since entering China, Hanwha Group is committed to developing alongside the Chinese society and fulfill its responsibility to the community. In 2012, Hanwha donated and installed 80kW solar PV system to Ningxia Baijitan Nature Reserve by leveraging its longstanding experience in the solar industry. Furthermore, Hanwha Group has planted 200,000 trees every year in the nature reserve since 2013 to further contribute to its anti-desertification program. In 2013, Hanwha Group introduced its global CSR program - “Happy Sunshine” - into China.
