Control Union’s International Sustainability & Carbon Certification (ISCC)

Hanwha Solutions announced on November 20 that 10 of its key feedstock materials in total have now won International Sustainability & Carbon Certification (ISCC) PLUS recognition. The certifications mark the company’s latest step toward enhancing market competitiveness amid the growing global demand for low–carbon products.

As one of the most reputable sources in tracking low-carbon efforts, ISCC PLUS certification is designed to reflect a company’s successful implementation of sustainability goals. Its transparent and rigorous assessment process enables top global energy companies to employ the certificate for manufacturing and marketing purposes.

Hanwha Solutions obtained new certifications for eight products and renewed certifications for two products. Those receiving first-time recognition are caustic soda (NaOH), chlorine (Cl2), toluene diisocyanate (TDI), and polyolefin (PO) products including low-density polyethylene (LDPE), linear low-density polyethylene (LLDPE), high-density polyethylene (HDPE), wire and cable (W&C) compound, and hydrogenated hydrocarbon resin (H-HCR). The company renewed certifications for ethylene-vinyl acetate (EVA) and polyvinyl chloride (PVC), bringing the total number of its certified products to 10.

Hanwha Solutions’ caustic soda is the first product to earn ISCC PLUS certification in Asia for its use of an increased proportion of renewable energy in production. While caustic soda has a wide variety of applications, it is a key material in battery manufacturing as the product is utilized to remove impurities from the cathode materials used in rechargeable electric vehicle batteries.

The company’s certified products, ranging from circular raw materials to bio-based fuels, are gaining global recognition for their low-carbon manufacturing processes.
