Hanwha’s defense business aims to contribute to building a sustainable social and security
infrastructure based on advanced defense solutions and future cutting–edge technologies
covering land, sea, air, and space. To achieve this, we offer domestic and international
innovative defense solutions spanning guided weapon systems, lasers and ultra–precision
navigation sensors, space launch vehicles, and specialized vessels. Additionally, we are building
a comprehensive lineup of weapons systems that can respond to all battlefield environments,
including air and land, to position ourselves as a global defense industry leader.
With our K9 self–propelled howitzer holding the top global market share, Hanwha achieved
approximately USD 1.16 billion in overseas orders in 2021 by expanding its exports. In 2022,
Hanwha signed a large–scale supply contract with Poland for the K9 self–propelled howitzer
and the CHUNMOO multiple rocket launcher. Furthermore, in 2023, we signed a contract with
the U.K.’s BAE Systems to supply modular charge systems (MCS) for 155 mm artillery shells used
by NATO member countries. We also finalized the export contract for the Redback, a tracked
infantry fighting vehicle, to Australia, further expanding our position as a leading company in the
global defense market. Meanwhile, Hanwha Ocean initiated a working–level consultative body
with Babcock International Group, a U.K.–based company with world–class technology, to secure
global submarine contracts. In June 2024, Hanwha Systems and Hanwha Ocean acquired
Philly Shipyard in the U.S., providing a bridgehead for expansion into the U.S. ship market. It is
expected that Hanwha Systems’ cutting–edge marine system technology and Hanwha Ocean’s rich experience in building special ships will create synergy in shipbuilding and MRO
performance.
